Facts on Moses and Nathan Rawlings Added by pjrollins1 <http://www.ancestry.com/community/member/profile.aspx?cba=pjrollins1> on 12 Oct 2006 Facts on Moses Rawlings by George Rawlings: Moses, son of Michael, was born ca 1740. There is a deed recorded June 20, 1774 in Frederick Co., MD, in which Moses purchased 88 acres from Lenord White. The next record is from "George Rogers Clark and His Men, Military Records, 1778-1784." "At the outset of hostilities during the Rev. War, Gov. Patrick Henry of VA. secretly commissioned George Rogers Clark to raise an army to fight the Indians on the Western Frontier. The Indians were being supported by the British. Moses served in this Army. He was awarded 200 acres of land on Dec. 31, 1784 for his service as a soldier in the Virginia Continental Line. The land warrent is number 3648. This warrent was sold to Eleasor P. Kendricks, who claimed the land in Ohio in 1807. Moses's service with George Rogers Clark was probably the reason he moved to KY. He evidently traveled over this land while fighting Indians during the war. After the death of Michael, Nathan, an unmarried brother of Moses, moved the rest of the family to Harrison County, KY. Nathan, who had served as a capt. in the 3rd Battalion, Washington Co., PA., Militia during the Rev. War and as a Ranger in 1778-1783 from Westmoreland Co., PA., soon became an influential citizen in Harrison Co. He served in the KY Militia where he rose to be a Lt. Col. He was also Justice of the Peace and was elected as a Rep. to the first KY. Legislature. A number of Moses's sons served with Nathan in the KY. Militia. Nathan married Mary Rankin and owned several pieces of property in Harrison Co. Nathan sold his property in Harrison Co. in 1801 and shortly after moved to Ohio neat Franklinton, where he later served as a Justice of the Peace. In 1816, Nathan moved to Lawerence Co., IL, where he died in 1821. Mary moved to Ohio about 1805 with her youngest son, Samuel, and lived with him until her death in 1822.
Moses married Mary CORNWELL in 1760. (Mary CORNWELL was born on 10 Mar 1743 and died in 1822 in , Fayette, Ohio.)
