General Notes: Elias Hoppes, the oldest son of Henry and Elizabeth (Aleshire) Hoppes, was born about 1824 in Meigs County, OH. He was mustered into service as a Private in Captain Richard’s Company (C), 5 Regiment Missouri State Militia Cavalry at age 37 at Rockport, MO on March 22, 1862 (Ref. #1). He brought his horse valued at $75 with him. A Company muster roll dated April 30 to August 31, 1862 records him as Present with the remark that: Furnished horse! Pay due for private horse from date of enlistment. Govt. equipments $32.40. His status on the muster rolls of Co. C, 5 Reg’t Mo. State Militia Cav. continued to be Present until his discharge at St. Joseph, MO on June 22, 1863. At the time of his discharge from service, he was last paid to March 1, 1863. His muster-out roll contained the remark: Value of horse $100. Pay due for private horse from Mar. 1, 1863 to June 22, 1863. Indebted to U. S. for one canteen. ![]()
