"Jacob Swain emigrated from Pennsylvania in 1814, and settled in Jackson Township, on the land where New Hope now is, where he and his wife, Elizabeth Bloom, spent the rest of their days. They had eleven children, six of whom are now living: Hannah Miller, Dural Swain, in Jefferson, and Elisha, in Washington Township, of this county; Polly Almonrode lives in Illinois; Polly Quin, in Iowa and Malinda Ogbern, in Indiana."
